False Sense of Leadership

By far by observing many groups, I realised a constant. There is always a false sense of leadership. It is because of one’s desire to be popular that they wish to control everything around them. Brian Tracy wrote, “Become the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if you had no title or position.”

In my recent experience when I was part of a group gathered to have a discussion. I noticed who is speaking and how others are reacting to it. The discussion was not fruitful as we did not come to any conclusion. That whole discussion was tensed and pressurised. I believe that any discussion with a tense environment should not be called a discussion. It is more like a king’s court, where only he is allowed to speak, to make the decision based on his moral sense and mental state.

I researched the reason for this type of leadership. After reading online articles I feel one of the reasons for this sense of leadership in a person is ignited by because of their inflated ego. It’s the pleasure of being in the top, controlling actions of others, trying to outsmart everyone. All these ignites an egotist person. This ego diminishes their own identity, corrupts their thoughts and betrays their sense of thinking practically and logically.

If you start noticing the behaviour pattern of leaders around, there are ways you can identify a false leader as they display several characteristics. Any false leader will display most of these characteristics:

1. Use of deception: There actions and words will be exactly the opposite.

2. Any good leader would not care about his title. But false ones adorn a fancy title.

3. They would blame others and the situation.

4. Attempts to control the actions of others.

5. They will disparage their team members.

So, in reality, a leader is someone willing to take the fall for his team’s efforts. He knows how to get the best out of his team. When the time comes, he will be the one to push his team to glory rather than taking the spotlight for himself.

Now the problem with this sense of leadership is that because of this nature, some good leaders do not take the necessary step. This happens because in a way they are suppressed, knocked off or their desire is killed. I am not saying that they are the golden goose who should be treated like a king. But in this chaotic world, the quality that has the power, skills and attitude to strive for success and progress is getting destroyed. Which eventually is and will affect everyone, without a good leader any organisation cannot strive to become the best.

There is no shortcut to success and nothing can help you, but only you can help yourself. You have to go out and explore the world. Pass hurdles to be the person you want to be. Maybe by changing your environment, a group of supporters, finding the right motivation can help you. It would differ from person to person. But at the same time, some arrogant fake leaders are making sure true leaders are not raised.

Thank you for reading. :D
